Happy Thanksgiving! This is the first Thanksgiving that I'm not spending with my family. Instead, I am spending it with Mike's family, who are all very nice and who I like a lot. Their family tradition is to make ravioli (they also have a turkey, but Mike says it's more symbolic and they all just have a little bit of it...the ravioli is the main dish). So, last night we went to his dad's house to help make it. I'm making pecan pie today, because I have every year since...? elementary school, I guess.
As always, I have a lot to be thankful for: my family, Mike, his family, my friends, my fun job and awesome students, having enough food, house, heat, etc. Thank you, God!

Peeping Toms/ exhibitionists Last night, a car pulled over in front of my house. He turned on the lights in his car. The man driving it took off all his clothes. I thought maybe there were two people in the car just looking for a private place to have car sex and not realizing that this isn't as much of a country road as it looks like, but there was only one person in the car. He reached into the backseat several times, but I don't know what for. I woke up this morning afraid that there had been a person trapped there, but I don't really think there was. Mike thinks really he was just moving in such a way as to show his penis to me in the window. The man started masturbating in the front seat. I then realized he was looking toward our house (I'm not sure if he was looking at my window [I was fully dressed] or my downstairs neighbor's window). I closed the blinds.
I didn't call the cops, because what would I say? There's a naked man in his car outside my house, but he'll probably be gone by the time you get here? It's not really an emergency, so it I couldn't justify call 911.
Anyway. Gross. Weird.

Somewhere between extrovert and introvert I find the words introvert and extrovert to not describe me at all. From my understanding, an introvert gets energy from being alone and an extrovert from being around lots of people. I think I, and probably many others, would like to just be around one person. A true extrovert would find a large party energizing instead of draining and a true introvert would find being alone to be energizing instead of draining, but what if someone would find both of those situations draining and would instead be energized by being with one person? I think that better reflects most people's natural tendencies (hence the one-spouse model appearing in most human societies).
Also, Mike is away from now until Tuesday night. For everyone looking for the perfect time to call me, now is that time!

Facebook and Google Every once in a while I google my name (in quotation marks) to see what exists about me. All the results for my name are actually referring to me, due to my name being relatively uncommon.
I've just done this again today and discovered that the first result for my name is my facebook page. Strangely enough, several of my friends facebook pages (which of course list my name as a friend) appear. Often, it's not just the regular facebook pages that I assume my friends are actually using but also the Spanish, Italian, German, etc. versions of facebook. I don't know how I feel about this. I guess my facebook page is the most general thing about me, but I think I'd rather have the first result about me be something else. In other surprises from the google search, apparently a piece I played (not very well) last fall is also on the internet. It took me a second to figure out what it was.

A permanent record When you're in elementary school, there's always a threat that if you do something really bad it could "go on your permanent record." For the most part this permanent record seems to be mythical. Certainly no one looked at any record of anything I did in elementary school when I applied to college or grad school or for a job.
People who don't like Obama or who are trying to discredit him as a liar, even about superficially simple things like his religion growing up are finding his school records from when he was a young boy in Indonesia and pointing out things like that he was registered as a Muslim student and got in trouble for making faces during his class about the Koran.
I guess maybe the mythical permanent record does exist but will only really be put to use if you run for president.

Sarah is a pretty girl She really could be a pearl Into the oyster But never the cloister Then I wouldn’t get to take a whirl!
He also wrote this other poem:
When you get home from work You sometimes feel like a jerk I work too hard Then I mark my card It really isn’t the time to lurk

Firefox woes! So, I got my new computer. It is a Toshiba. It mostly seems okay. Thank you for all of you who gave me advice. I ended up deciding that I needed a computer right away and so didn't want to wait for the Dell that people suggested that wasn't in BestBuy or the Lenovo Thinkpad to be mailed to me.
The man at BestBuy who was supposed to bring everything from my old harddrive over to my new computer brought over bookmarks from Internet Explorer, but not from Firefox, which sucks because Firefox is the browser that I use and had probably 100s of bookmarks in while Explorer's bookmarks were the ones that came with my old computer. If anyone knows any bookmarks (eg, there was a section "friends' websites" in my old bookmarks, also an "amusing things" section that had more than the few comics that are there now), let me know. I think I was able to think of most of the comics that I use regularly and some of my favorite teaching English websites when I got my computer and put them in my new version of firefox.
Now, weirdly, on my new computer, instead of being the faster, happier browser firefox keeps becoming "unresponsive." Does anyone know what could be causing this or how I can fix it?

[Link] | My laptop has ceased to turn on (I am writing this from my Mom's computer - oh by the way, I'm back in Fairfield today-Tuesday morning for people in the area). Therefore, I will be buying a new one, hopefully on Monday.
I do not think I want a mac. I've had an IBM ThinkPad for the past few years and have liked it quite a lot. I think maybe most laptops have these things but just in case: it should have a microphone built in, a CD burner (and maybe a DVD burner). It might also be nice to have a webcam built in and good speakers.
I am considering this one: http://www.laptopmag.com/review/laptops/Dell-XPS-M1330.aspx It looks pretty nice. Or possible one of the new Lenovo ThinkPad X300.
Does anyone have any opinions on laptops? If so, let me know before Monday!

The joke's on you! HAHA! April Fools! I got you! You didn't see that one coming!
I guess the joke is that I didn't play a joke on you...I didn't really come up with anything clever to do at all.
I told Mike that we weren't really out of Rice Krispies, that I'd just hidden them as an April Fools joke. He got kind of excited that he could have more cereal. Then I told him that no, I hadn't really done that. April Fools! Like a joke within a joke!
I sent Miyo this link (that I got from the SRC Reflector). It is about flying penguins! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2008/04/01/npenguin101.xml

Has anyone else heard about this strike/boycott thing? I didn't know anything about lj being sold and preparing to be evil or anything, but I just read that people are boycotting (not posting any entries or comments for 24 hours to show their displeasure with some things lj is planning on doing. I guess if it's true might as well try this. If not, it's not like I really lose anything by not being on lj for a day (beginning about an hour from now). Copied and pasted from another lj:
The one-day content strike is on for this Friday, March 21, from midnight GMT to midnight GMT.
For 24 hours, we will not post or comment to LJ. Not in our own journals, not in communities. Not publicly, privately, or under friends-lock.
Why? Because the new owners of LJ said they were going to listen to a user driven advisory board before making any changes, and didn't. They instead tried to take away all GLBT related interest groups, and were about to take away all free, ad free accounts as well and make LJ paid. Basic/free users help drive this site! And paid or not, our interests should not be dictated to us.
This is a protest that will have long-lasting effects, showing up forever in the daily posting statistics.
This is a protest that will not harm LJ in the long run, as leaving LJ might do.
This is a protest that will demonstrate the power of community, as all users unite to support Basic users and the concept of ad-free space.
This is a protest that will educate the new owners that LJ is driven by user-created content.
Content Strike Friday March 21, from midnight to midnight GMT
* We are holding the Content Strike because we want to demonstrate that LiveJournal is content-driven. * We are holding the Content Strike because we want the new owners of LiveJournal to better understand the power and resolve of the LJ Community of Users. * We are holding the Content Strike because all of us, Paid, Permanent and Plus users as well as Basic, want to demonstrate our solidarity as a Community of Users. We do not consider Basic users to be freeloaders, we consider them to be valuable content-providers and Friends. * We are holding the Content Strike because we ache to do something to show our displeasure, and commenting on the news post -- even with cat macros -- just isn't powerful enough!
---------------------------------------
The strike has three terms:
1. Restore basic accounts for new account creation. 2. Inform users before any change to the site that affects how we use the site or demands on our resources. 3. Run change proposals by the Advisory Board and take their advice into account before implementation of any change.
***
The 24-hour strike will begin at the following times for the following locations:
Thursday, March 20, 2:00 PM -- Honolulu Thursday, March 20, 4:00 PM -- Anchorage Thursday, March 20, 5:00 PM -- San Francisco; Los Angeles - Thursday, March 20, 6:00 PM -- Mexico City; Denver - Navajo Nations in AZ. Thursday, March 20, 7:00 PM -- Chicago Thursday, March 20, 8:00 PM -- Montreal; New York Thursday, March 20, 9:00 PM -- Buenos Aires Midnight -- London Friday, March 21, 1:00 AM -- Paris Friday, March 21, 2:00 AM -- Istanbul Friday, March 21, 3:00 AM -- Moscow Friday, March 21, 4:00 AM -- Dubai Friday, March 21, 5:00 AM -- Islamabad Friday, March 21, 6:00 AM -- Bangladesh Friday, March 21, 7:00 AM -- Bangkok Friday, March 21, 8:00 AM -- Singapore Friday, March 21, 9:00 AM -- Tokyo Friday, March 21, 10:00 AM -- Brisbane Friday, March 21, 11:00 AM -- Sydney Friday, March 21, 12 Noon -- Suva

How Can I Help?
DO post about this in your own LJ. DO post and comment about it in appropriate communities. DO remember that it's based on Greenwich Mean Time, which may not be your local time. DO turn off LoudTwitter and your RSS feeds for 24 hours.
DON'T forget to get permission from community mods before making an off-topic post or comment about the strike. DON'T be spammy with your posts or comments about the strike. DON'T forget to turn your LoudTwitter and RSS feeds back on when the strike is over. DON'T post anything on LJ from midnight to midnight March 21 (see above times for your actual start time)

Ruckus I'm not sure if there's anyone on my lj list who doesn't already know about Ruckus, but just in case I thought I'd say something. Ruckus.com is a free and legal downloading music website. I find it to be very convenient and pleasing. Unfortunately, it's claiming that it might have to stop existing soon due to a lack of members. I encourage you to sign up and try it if you haven't. It will displease and inconvenience me if it ceases to be available to me. Thank you.

Reunion So I was invited to my high school five year reunion, despite not actually graduating, and even though I wrote the date down correctly in my calendar book, in my mind it was taking place the Saturday before Thanksgiving, a day that I would be in Fairfield. Instead it is taking place the Saturday after Thanksgiving (which makes more sense for most people who) but I'm leaving to go back to Indiana earlier that day. I have now changed my facebook response to reflect the fact that I will not attend. That's kind of sad, although I guess it's ok.

All Hallows Day So, even though I understand that the day after Halloween is a Holy Day of Obligation (in the same way the day after Christmas Eve is) and I understand that yesterday was Halloween because I got dressed up in my sailor dress and went to a party and because I got at least two email reminders this week of Mass times today, I didn't manage to remember until 1pm today that I should go to Church. By that time, the only Mass left was 5:30 and since I had class until 5:30 and it always ends up going a couple minutes over anyway and I wanted to talk to my teacher after class, I didn't get home until 5:50 or so, and so by the time I would have gotten to Mass it would have been more than half over and so Mike told me not to go, but right now it may still be going on and so I'm sitting here feeling guilty and not doing anything but fretting until Mass is definitely over. I am silly.

Recital Over! So my recital is over! It happened yesterday and people seemed to like it, so that's good.
The dress I'd bought at Good Will my Mom decided I couldn't wear because it had spaghetti straps that would sometimes fall down when I was playing and she thought it would be distracting from the music if everyone was wondering if my breasts were about to pop out. So we went to a dress/bridal store downtown that has a clearance room in its basement and I found a new dress (or actually technically a skirt and blouse) that fit so we bought that ($30 which my dad found amazing). It was sort of a funny store because it was owned by a Turkish woman and her sister was also working there and both of them had their heads covered in scarves and were wearing long sleeve sweaters, but the store seemed to only have sleeveless dresses in their store, but that turned out to be good for me anyway because the stage was so hot.

Because Phil Tatro is forcing me to 1.] grab the nearest book. 2.] open the book to page 23. 3.] find the fifth sentence. 4.] post the text of the next three sentences on your blog along with these instructions. 5.] don't you dare dig for that "cool" or "intellectual" book in your closet! i know you were thinking about it! just pick up whatever is closest. 6.] tag five other people to do the same.
" 'If you've made my crystal buns fall in the oven,' she exclaimed, 'I'll hit you with a piece of wood!' She peered into a little hot oven. She came back, red, steamy-faced.
Eh. I can't be bothered to tag anyone else. I guess do it if you feel like it.
